My friend and I were discussing the second book (duh) and the subject was about Tom aka Voldemort. You know the bit where Tom writes his name with the wand and re-arranges the words into I AM LORD VOLDEMORT? Well, I was wondering what they wrote in other countries for that section. Or do they miss out that part? I hope you get what I'm asking.

I've never read the books in another language, but it surely can't be too hard to make a different anagram of I AM LORD VOLDEMORT in whatever language the book is written. Only I and AM would have to change, anyway, so if you wanted to give riddle a very similar name to the one is English language books all you would have to do would be to tweak around with it a bit... yeah.

I'm not sure, I never really thought about it. But it shouldn't be that hard to do. Just change his name alittle bit probabley.

yeah, a littel tweek of the words was probably all that was necessary, maybe they changed the meaning as well, instead of I AM LORD VOLDEMORT maybe MY NAME IS LORD VOLDEMORT, and Tom Riddle's name would have to change, to what I don't know...

Yeah, probably, I thought it would have been hard because when Tom writes his name Tom Marvolo Riddle, all the letters form into I am Lord Voldemort.

Well in french I am Lord Voldermort would become: Je mapelle Lord Voldermort (I forget the spelling, that was like the first thing I learnt five years ago) so they would probably hope that other languages wouldnt pick it up...

Or Je suis Lord Voldemort which would be the exact translation.

Hey you guys! Look what I found~!! " In CoS we learn that "I am Lord Voldemort" is an anagram of his given name, Tom Marvolo Riddle.[5] In many of the foreign language versions of the books the anagram is preserved in some form. The following site details many of these: http://www.eulenfeder.de/int/gbint.html. "I found that at http://www.i2k.com/~svderark/lexicon/faq/v.../voldemort.htmlAnd if you go to the link that quote offers, you have to scroll WAAAAAY down on the chart, but it just shows this (basically, the original is a chart, I can't copy/paste that) English: Tom Marvolo Riddle I am Lord Voldemort German: Tom Vorlost Riddle ... ist Lord Voldemort Dutch: Marten Asmodom Vilijn Mijn naam is Voldemort Norwegian: Tom Drodelo Venster Voldemort den store Swedish: Tom Gus Mervolo Dolder Ego sum Lord Voldemort French: Tom Elvis Jedusor Je suis Voldemort Italian: Tom Orvoloson Riddle Sono io Lord Voldemort Polish: * (none?) Finnish: Tom Lomen Valedro Hungarian: Tom Rowle Denem Czech: Tom Rojvol Raddle Já lord Voldemort That's really interesting ^___^ Hope that helps!

Wow, awesome site SF! It explains everything... I thought it would have been hard to do the anagram in different countries, I guess it isn't.

QUOTE Polish: * (none?) no in the beginning it said that a star means it is the same as english so it is Tom Marvolo Riddle i am Voldemort by the way that site was very good- it was very interesting in school i'm takin french and je suis means i am so that's cool. QUOTE QUOTE (Aayla Kaade @ Wednesday, May 14, 2003 - 08:42 AM) Well in french I am Lord Voldermort would become: Je mapelle Lord Voldermort (I forget the spelling, that was like the first thing I learnt five years ago) so they would probably hope that other languages wouldnt pick it up... u misspelled it- i take french it is je m' appelle and that means my name is.... but in the book they said i am voldemort so as a result u use the verb etre- to be and for je the verb is suis so it is je suis voldemort- just a quick lesson

LOL. But I've always wondered why did J.K. name the school. "Hog warts?" i mean its stupid. i'm not trying to upset you because I LOVE Hogwarts but its always struck me as a dumb name. It must have been Helga Hufflepuff's idea.
