We are not mired in what is written in black and white; we are, however, a lot more inclined to believe what is written in black and white AND was implied in previous books, than we are to believe something that you think is implied, but seems fairly circumstantial to us.
It's not that I can't see what you're talking about, I merely don't think that those signs mean Harry loves Luna (except in perhaps a Platonic way) and there is overwhelming evidence that he does love Ginny, so I'm gonna stick with that.

I think he did that because Luna was a very important person in his life at that time.
If he loved Luna than he would have married her, not Ginny.
I think we've already covered this.

QUOTE(pensieve @ Tuesday, January 29, 2008 - 02:18 PM) Harry's marriage to Ginny will never last. He is secretly in love with Luna. It was obvious when he was offering to assist her in finding her "stolen" items. It was written all over his face. I don't think so. I think he was just trying to be nice. After all, she did help him with the whole prophecy thing.

QUOTE(WithaFlourish @ Tuesday, October 14, 2008 - 09:06 PM) Now you're just spamming and it's quite annoying. Grow up. I take exception to your assertion. This is not spam. I am sharing a well done video montage with the forum that is appropriate to the subject of this thread. The fact that you choose to interpret it otherwise, leads me to believe it is you who needs to "grow up." If you'll do a little research, it is clear that I am not the only one who feels that Harry indeed longs for Luna. Here's one of the literally thousands of sites that take the notion a bit further. I guess you'll be attacking them next... Harry/Luna

I can not believe my utter failure in checking out this topic! Where have I been! Although I am a huge fan of the ideal of Harry and Luna being together (ala my terrible fanfic). With the way Harry's feeling were expressed in DH, he is head over heals for Ginny. Before DH it could have been up for grabs. In fact I would say there is significant chemistry between Harry and Luna, but it did NOT develop, could it have maybe, but it did not. Your description of Harry's feelings toward Ginny, could be plausible, if Deathly Hallows was never written, but there love develops into something more in that book. If Ginny had died, I could have seen him ending up with Luna.
On a side not, you might not be intending to come off as standoffish, and mean, but the way you convey your feelings does come off as condescending.

Perhaps the video wasn't spam, but repeating "Harry loves Luna Harry loves Luna Harry loves Luna" over and over again was. Particularly as you necro'd the thread to say it.
Since you did include something of merit (I guess - I haven't actually clicked the link, so I'm assuming) as well as the spam portion, I'm not going to delete it or anything, but Flourish was right.

Your omniscient, omnipotent, omnibus mod - Simbera First of all, let me give you a definition so you don't embarrass yourself in the future. Spamming is the abuse of electronic messaging systems, such as e-mail, to indiscriminately send unsolicited bulk messages, primarily in the nature of an advertisement.
Stating in one line of text in a forum thread that 'Harry loves Luna loves Harry' can in NO WAY be considered spam. It was simply a clever way of depicting their unbroken bond. I guess you guys are unable to intrepret anything imaginative. Judging by the previous interactions chronicled in the earlier posts of this thread, I'd say its obvious. You guys will contrive anything to dispel the fact that Harry longs for Luna and it's absolutely laughable at the lengths you'll go. Also, this thread was NOT necro'd. It was one of the top few in the list. Its not my fault that this forum is so inactive. If anything I am breathing life into this sad, lifeless board to revive a topic so near to my heart. (The once in a lifetime phenomenon that is HP.) So, no... Flourish was NOT right. And neither, Simbera - oh omnivorous one, are you.

Okay, pensieve. I wasn't having a go at you in the previous post, I was just stating my position, as the person who is de facto running this place, in as clear and impersonal a terms as possible. I then did my usual sign-off that I do when I'm posting as a Mod, rather than posting whatever I feel like saying in a thread; "Your [light joke here] mod, Simbera", which is distinct from my usual "<^>" and helps you realise that I'm posting in Mod Voice.
But, you want to get snarky? We'll get snarky.
SPAM stands for Short Pointless Annoying Messages. You posted a Message, which was (even including the part that was Pointless and Annoying) quite Short. Therefore, it was Spam.
The books imply repeatedly, through circumstantial and non-circumstantial evidence, that Harry loves Ginny. The later ones also state in plain text that he does, again repeatedly. He marries her and has kids with her. Conversely, he was kinda nice to Luna a few times and had a few moments that could be interpreted as sexual tension. We are taking the side with all the evidence on it, and we're going to ridiculous lengths? We're contriving things that aren't there? Don't make me laugh.
I am perfectly capable of interpreting things imaginatively when they're left ambiguous. Before HBP I might have given your argument more weight, because it was all left open for us to wonder, but by the end of HBP JK had made the facts clear, and had married them by the end of DH. So if you want to overthrow that kind of evidence, you need a lot in your favour. But you're just clutching at straws.
The thread hadn't been active in a month, and your post was not directly related to the quote you posted. If you had said "No, I think he named his daughter after he because..." then it would have been fine. But as it stands: reviving a thread without responding directly to it, when it's over a month old, is necro-ing it, Spam, and all the rest. And guess what? I'm the mod, so I make the decision as to whether or not it's necro-ing, not you.
They had given you 'fuel for the fire' and plenty to discuss, the thread was active for a time there but YOU didn't respond. Don't blame the inactivity of the forum when you come by a month later and wonder why it's not still going, and then IGNORE THE DISCUSSION ALTOGETHER and take it off into your own tangent.
I'm upping your warn level, for the spam and the backchat. But since I have a sneaking suspicion you'll give me a laugh by responding to this post and yelling at me, I'll leave the thread open.
Nice call on the 'omnivorous', BTW. I'll have to use that one.

I find this whole thread hilarious. To state something as fact when your only evidence is subtext seems a little strange to me. In fact its a lot like divination. There are NO FACTS in subtext. One can theorize, but never truly prove a truth through it. The theory that Luna and Harry would someday be together is an interesting theory, but in no way is it fact. Stating it as fact is nothing less than foolish (nothing personal).
On a side note, this board may not be what it once was, but please do not start bashing it. I may get all riled up and start senselessly bashing everything.

Your friendly-happy-sunshine mod - Simbera Me? Snarky? haha!First of all – moderator or not, the fact is everyone on this board has an opinion. That's the very nature of message boards. You happen to not agree with mine and that's fine. I disagree with your assertion of my post as spam. That doesn't give you the moral right to counter my posts with warnings and make my presence here appear negative. (This calls into question your self-proclaimed Mod of the Year cred. haha!)I think I know your ulterior motive and wish you the best of luck on your pursuit. PM me and I'll explain. I don't want to call you out publicly. And no, I don't yell at people. It's not my style. Sorry to disappoint you.The point is I've not once disputed or attempted to "overthrow" the facts of the book. I've never denied that he loves Ginny. We all know that Harry weds Ginny and has children. We also know that he names his children after the people he loves. This supports my assertion that he does, indeed love Luna. This is indisputable.I'm not going to reiterate all of the logical points I've made in this thread. You can go back and read them for yourself. I've not once personally attacked anyone for their opinion, but merely provided a constructive counter-argument. You can continue to live by the steadfast, written word of JKR and continue to miss the spiritual, psychological and internal side of Harry (and Luna). That's your loss.I am not bashing anything about this board and please don't blame the lack of activity on one member. I truly support its existence and enjoy browsing the posts. True, I've not been posting much, but what percentage of members are vitally active? I'd guess less than 10%. Not my fault… Probably 75% of all threads, if responded to right now would be considered by you as necro'd. I do feel that my post, however "late" you may think it is, was on topic and accurate.

Okay, something you need to understand is that while there will always be differences of opinion on message boards, when the question is regarding whether or not something is Spam (or breaks any other rule) then it's the opinion of the moderators that count. That's just the way it is.
You can argue that Harry loves Luna ad infinitum if you like, and even though I disagree with you, I won't step in. It's when you stop arguing and start spamming that I step in. This isn't a difference-of-opinion thing, it's a them's-the-rules thing. That said, your last post summed up your main argument in quite an effective way - we can certainly take it as fact that Harry does love Luna, it's just whether it's in a sexual or platonic way, and how much so that are up for debate.
I have PM'd you as you requested, so from now on can we keep this discussion of the rules to PM and keep the "Harry loves Luna" stuff in the thread, it's getting dangerously off-topic.
And incidentally, my title of Mod of the Year isn't self-proclaimed, it's voted upon by the members of the site.
