Something I thought of......, probably nothing

In the SS/PS when Hagrid comes to the shack on the island, Vernon said something that sounded like "Mimblewimble". I think that was the secret word for a Fidelius charm Dumbledore cast on the Dursley's house! Uncle Vernon may have unknowingly participated in something he despises. Ironic eh? I mean, we don't know exactly Dumbledore worded his letter he left with the Dursley's. Seeing how Dumbledore always thinks ahead and all, I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

btw, I didn't know whether this should go here or he OotP forum. If it needs moved, I apologize smile.gif

Interesting inference SG! I never thought of that. I'll have to check the book. You might be right!

If memory serves, the fidelius charm is what is cast when a secret-keeper is invloved- right?

And someguy, that's an interesting observation! ^-^ I'd check it out, but someone is borrowing all my books ><;

Hmm... Interesting.

But how could Mr. Dursley conveniently know that mimblewimble is the secret word for the Fidelius charm?

And, isn't the secret keeper the only person who can break the Fidelius charm? So, supposing the secret keeper is Dumbledore, when Mr. Dursley said 'mimblewimble' it would have no affect because he isn't the secret keeper.

When Hagrid comes to get Harry, Uncle Vernon says that when he's trying to argue that Hagrid's lying.

Uncle Vernon may have been the secret keeper, I dunno. In 14 days, I suppose we'll find out.

Er, where exactly does Uncle Vernon say "mimblewhimble" and where do you remember seeing that as the Fidelius Charm word? I'll look it up if you rememeber what chapters you saw it in ^^;

Oh yeah, and this should belong in here, since the event your speaking of happens in the first book ^_^

It's a couple pages into Chapter Four, when Hagrid first mentions Hogwarts. I can't recall the page number, my copy isn't here. It never said it was the word for a Fidelius Charm, I was just thinkin it could have been one. Uncle Vernon just seems like the type that's gonna tell all he knows when scared like when Hagrid got mad.

From the Lexicon:

Complex and powerful charm that hides a person or persons completely; their location is known only to their designated "Secret Keeper."

Used to try to protect Lily and James Potter from Voldemort. "An immensely complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret inside a single, living soul. The information is hidden inside the chosen person, or Secret-Keeper, and is henceforth impossible to find -- unless, of course, the Secret-Keeper chooses to divulge it. As long as the Secret-Keeper refused to speak, You-Know-Who could search the village where Lily and James were staying for years and never find them, not even if he had his nose pressed against their sitting room window!" Unfortunately, Peter Pettigrew was chosen as Secret-Keeper, and he betrayed James and Lily (PA)

Mimblewimble??? The fidelius incantation? Sorry, but that sounds a little too weird. When I read that I just got the image of Vernon standing there mumbling in fright. Mimblewimble seemed like a very good word to describle that image. That's my opinion! smile.gif

Hmn, I don't really think so. It's an interesting observation though. But how could he be involved in magic without knowing it? I thought you had to at least have some idea of what you are doing before you do it. tongue.gif

I know, I totally agree with you. I'm 99.99999999999999999% sure JKR was only describing a mumbling dursley, not hinting at anything at all.
Try not to read too far into the books.

Well, now, I'm not so sure. JK has done it before, but i'll go check my book in a minute. I've got a copy, so I'll look it up. But don't get carried away, you've got a good point there.

And that's exactly right. I looked it up, plus I've read the book 16 times. Hermione.gif

"So you mean the stone's only safe as long as Quirrel stands up to Snape?" said Hermione in alarm.
"It'll be gone by next tuesday," said Ron.

"Setting the lamp down carefully on the floor, he looked along the bottom shelf for an interesting-looking book. A large black and silver volume caught his eye. Ok, this is pretty stupid, not to stomp on your idea or anything, but it's based on nothing. What connection to the Fidelius CHarm does him saying that have? He just mumbled it in fright, and why do you say that? I could say "Oh, Mimblewimble is the incantation for the spell that makes Uncle Vernon look frightened" because he looks frightened, and it would make more sense than this.

What are you basing this on, exactly?

The Fidelius Charm is exactly what you guys said, but how is it related to Vernon saying that?

<^>
